David Crowder and friends are back again with their ninth album, Church Music, an album jam packed with 17 songs. One thing that stood out to me is that the album is  produced so that it would run smoothly from one song to the next. The total album clocks in at around 74 minutes. Known for their worship themed music, this album won’t let down loyal DC*B fans. It is a electronically driven album with some rock elements, all fused with great lyrics. One such song is God Almighty, None Compares, a song that speaks of God’s grace and how nothing will compare to his endless love for us.

Included with the 17 track on the album are two amazing covers that display the unique talents of this band. The first is All Around Me by Flyleaf. The second is How He Loves by John Mark McMillan. The title track Church Music(Dance) is a techno-driven song that is a joy from beginning to end. It is really the main message of this album; to get up and praise Him with your dance, no matter the song or rhythm.

My two favorite songs on the album are Shadows and Oh Happiness.

Shadows: a song that tells us that when we are surrounded by darkness, we will not fail. If we will rest in the shadow of the cross, he will be our light that brings us up and allows us to breathe again, if only we trust in Him.

Oh Happiness: tell us there is enough of God’s Grace for all of us, and helps us to understand that we can lean on him in troubled times.  He will allow us to find happiness through all things, and that all things work for his purpose.

You really need to pick up this album as soon as you can. It is a collection of songs that are a great arrangement of new styles of “Church Music” that will indeed bless your for years to come.

Hailing from Tampa, Florida, Chris Kuti and Conrad Johnson spend most of the past few years as solo artists. But God had a different plan for them. And after listening to their self-titled debut album, you will remember why his plan is always best. Chris and Conrad have done a great job expressing themselves on a intimate and personal level through their music, and it displays their deep love for Christ. They count Jars of Clay, John Waller, and Lifehouse among their musical influences, which is very evident as you listen. With 12 tracks clocking in at just under 45 minutes, C&C have put together an excellent freshman album.

Musically, the duo didn’t set or break any musical trends, but it does show their love for Christ, what he means to them, and how he has affected their lives. Mike Weaver, lead singer of Big Daddy Weave, co-wrote the song Who I Really Am, a song that expresses the great love of Jesus and that lets us know that He will not let us falter even though He knows who we really are. He will be there, ready to lift us back up so that we can find ourselves through his Word. Also, included in this album is their version of the Brooke Frasier worship anthem, Lead Me To The Cross. Kuti said, in reference to recording the already popular song, that “Its hard taking a song that is already so popular and then re-recording it. But we feel like we have taken the original song and really made it our own.”

All together this album was a good freshman start for this duo. I look forward to what the future holds for Chris and Conrad as songwriters and as performers. This album will be a pleasant addition to your collection.
