As has been evidenced by the success of acts like Third Day, Casting Crowns, Echoing Angels and the like, Atlanta,Ga and the surrounding area has become a hotbed of Christian Music. Now, out of LaGrange, Ga, comes After Edmund, a rock quintet with a message. That message is Love. It bleeds through on every track on their debut album, Hello, on Slanted Records. From start to finish, you can tell that these boys know what they are doing. Their passion for their Savior is evident, and their message is clear. Formed in 2001, while they were students at LaGrange college, the guys in After Edmund honed themselves as a band, playing shows and releasing 4 independent projects. Now, with the release of their first labeled album, they are poised to take the Christian Rock scene by storm.
“Thank God”, the first track on the album, is a song of literal thanks. “Thank God I’ve lost, all my hope, in anything, that isn’t you”. What a powerful message to bring to the church, that we put our hopes in our jobs, our cars, our things, but somehow, they will all let us down. HE is the only one who our hope should be in, for he will never let us down. This song should be every Christians “life” song. Following on the album, is “Fighting for Your Heart(Let It Go)”, a song about how His Love is Fighting for our heart. If you dig deeper into the meanings, its about placing your trust in him. How the world will rip and tear at your heart, but how his love will protect you. The song also details how its not easy to let go of the hurt and the pain, but He can heal it. “Everyone” follows the running theme of the album, Gods great love for us. We so often make something out of nothing. We beat ourselves up. And yet, his love will take us away. We can’t make it on our own, but his love will take us away. “Come and Rain Down” is a cry for Jesus to rain down his strength upon you when you are weak. Even in our “darkest room, there is a light on for you”. “Clouds”, a message of love from above. It tells us how things will try and come between our Father and his great love for us.
Over and over, the message of love from God to us is enforced on this album. After Edmund has truly placed themselves among the bands to watch in 2008 and beyond! This album is excellent! Definitely worth a listen!
