When you first begin to play the Ocean is Theory EP you can feel the passion these guys have for our Lord. The Album is titled “Into the Mouths of Lions” and was released just this past spring. A local Christian radio station has already begun to play the song “Oh Broken Son”. The album is what I would call very contemporary worship. It is upbeat, and will make you want to sing along. Though only 5 tracks long, there isn’t one song I didn’t like. My personal favorite would be “Plant your fields”. The fact that they combined such a great sound with amazing lyrics shows that these guys will go far. I’ve not only listened to the CD, but read the lyrics to the songs, and the lyrics alone are powerful. Josh, who is the lead vocalist, has an amazing voice and is just as equally matched by the sound of the band. The band consists of 5 guys from Atlanta, the oldest of whom is 20, and the youngest is only 2 years behind at 18. You can check out the band personaly at myspace.com/oceanistheory. I really hope you check these guys out and support them by purchasing a CD and maybe seeing them if they play close to where you live.

“The city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands was bombed during WWII and the main part of the city was completely destroyed. At that time, a Russian/French sculptor saw the wasteland and dubbed it “the city without a heart.” However, the spirit of Rotterdam was determined to “…go on, eyes firmly fixed on the present and the future, and not to linger in the past.” As a result, architects were presented with the opportunity to reconstruct the heart of Rotterdam from scratch and so they did. As it stands today, Rotterdam is an old city with a new heart. This is the analogy for Christians; the enemy’s goal is to destroy mankind and he has been partly successful through Adam’s original sin. However, that is not the end of the story, through Jesus’ death and resurrection, mankind has the opportunity to be reconstructed with a brand new heart. Spreading this message through music, whether directly or indirectly, is the goal and desire of the band A Rotterdam November.” It is this story that takes you inside the debut album from A Rotterdam November in which the intro track is full of an army at battle and then drops forcefully into “City Without A Heart” like a bomb.It is the perfect song to kick of this album and could lead to a very successful career for A Rotterdam November. This track pretty much stands out over every other single track . It catches your attention to the talent of this new band. Another stand out song is “Breaking For You” . With strong melodies and a worshipful rhythm, this song will most certainly take you to a worshipful state of mind. The lyrics in every song stand out as battle cries for spiritual warfare we as Christians are engaged in. Every song from track 1 to the end is a solid awakening of the meaning of Christian Rock as well as a love song to our Savior.

The independent side of the Christian Rock movement has a new band of soldiers in its quest to bring salvation to the unbelievers of the world. That band is Ever Stays Red. Formed in 2004, On The Brink Of It All is their debut release and is being distributed via EMI. Overall, this is an excellent album with a great deal to offer everyone. The standout track on the album has to be “Glorious” with its cry to our Lord to “Rain Down You Glory”. This is definitely a song that I shout out to God from the depths of my heart. Dustin Carlson, the new lead singer of ESR, has a very unique voice that stands out throughout the album, but especially on “Glorious”. You can feel the passion to seek after God in his voice. Throughout the entire CD it is all about the Rock and proclaiming that God is the reason why they sing. I strongly suggest that you run out and get this album immediately! Ever Stays Red is definitely on the brink of success with On The Brink Of It All!
