Delirious:Kingdom of Comfort
| Martin Smith, Jon Thatcher, Stew Smith (replaced by Paul Evans,) Tim Jupp, and Stuart Garrand of the group Delirious? has announced earlier this year that the band will be retiring from recording beginning the end of year 2009! After a 16 year run, the group, known as (The Cutting Edge 1993-1996) “Delirious?” or would that be “Delirious5,” who gave us songs like “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever, Our God Reigns, and God You’re My God,” has decided to move on to personal projects and be more available to family.
With a promise to continue with the group’s current Tours, and the release of “Kingdom of Comfort,” Delirious? continues to move forward, although this chapter of their lives will come to an end at the end of 2009! With a voice crying out “Save me from the kingdom of comfort where I am king, from my unhealthy lust of material things,” the band begins their 2008 (and possibly last) album release. A complete twist from what one would expect from a title “Kingdom of Comfort,” but yet with lyrics that are very thought provoking. “God Is Smiling” is a song with an awesome musical accompaniment, there’s just a little bit of everything, yet it all comes together and makes perfect sense in an upbeat racing tempo. “Give It What You’ve Got” is the personal testimony of the band over the years and their way of saying Good Bye: “The years have flown by, this is our time for moving on, we’ve got to fly!” I love everything about this song…the music, lyrics, up beat tempo, arrangement, the sound, the message. It’s becoming quite clear what “Kingdom of Comfort” is all about. Imagine the day, when it finally came, when Christ had to leave his disciples behind. There were both sentiments to the Father: “all that you have given me I have kept,” and sentiments to his disciples: “I’ve taught you all that I’ve received of my Father, it’s time for me to go now.” This is what I perceive “Kingdom of Comfort” to be about. Through the lyrics and personal messages of each song, it is as if the band Delirious? is saying to God: “We gave it all we had,” and to their fans: “It’s time for us to go now.” It is a sad feeling to see them go, but a feeling of gratitude for all that they have given us. Considering the end of an era, and the message in the songs, “Kingdom of Comfort” is a timely release, it will be the band’s message in a bottle to forever ring out to their fans: Thank You for the journey!
