I can still remember the first time I ever heard of Family Force 5,  I was going to a concert and they were one of the opening bands. All I knew about them was that they were from Atlanta, and since the show was in Atlanta I just assumed they were the local opening act. As soon as they took the stage I knew I was way off on my original assumption of the band. They tore the roof off the building! I had never really heard their style of music before; all I knew is that I liked it. I mean I really liked it. It was a great mix of rock, pop, and dance music. After the show I immediately  bought their CD, Business Up Front/Party In the Back and I have enjoyed it ever since.

Two years later the Force is still strong with the group as they release their sophomore album Dance or Die. They have composed eleven songs infusing rap, funky rhythms, infectious rock-n-roll, crunk beats, and easy to sing with lyrics that you will want to listen to over and over again. You can help but move when you hear to the pounding beats of “Get Your Back Off the Wall”, “Fever”, “D-I-E 4 Y-O-U” and the title track “Dance of Die” is an ’80’s throw back that would make Michael Jackson proud. Thrown into the mix are a couple of ballads including “How In the World”, a compelling love song that still carries the unique sound that only FF5 can produce. Capping off the album is “Radiator”, a song with deep churning guitar riffs and all around rock anthem feel. The greatest aspect of the Dance or Die is that the band completely recorded the disc independently without the help from a label, and Soul Glow Activator acted as producer along side Joe Baldridge (Beck, Jewel).

Bottom line this is one solid album that will see the boys in the Family go far. After all, they signed with Tooth & Nail Records as a result of all of their hard work on the album.

This album receives a FAMILY FORCE
