Grits:Reiterate
| I’m gonna be honest, I like rap, hip-hop and r&b, a lot, but I get turned off very easily from it when actually “listening” to the lyrics of the songs that have the beats that I love. I love the smooth vocals and beats that todays secular world has out there but they are severely lacking in something… Something of value. And who needs Snoop Dogg or Ludacris when you have Grits.
Grits really “brought it” with their newest album Reiterate, which happens to be their eighth full length album. The tracks will force you to get up out of your chair and move. The beats and lyrics don’t let go of you through out the whole album, forget taking it out and putting in another, you’ll just want to keep it on repeat. And just when I thought the album couldn’t get any better, they throw in the oh-so talented vocals of Mac Powell(Third Day), Dan Haseltine(Jars of Clay), TobyMac, Matha Munizzi and Britt Nicole. Grits prove that you can have positive and uplifting lyrics that talk about faith and God and still be fun hip-hop/rap. They have an awesome blend of music on this album from the style of rap that you have grown to love from Grits to music with a reggae feel to it, and they nail it! More groups need to take the lead from Grits and take a stand that you don’t have to objectify women and talk about drugs to be a successful group. I’d recommend Reiterate to anyone who loves something with a beat but doesn’t want all the junk that is typically associated with rap and hip-hop music. Notable tracks: Fly Away(ft. Mac Powell), Something about You, Say Goodbye(ft. TobyMac) and Turn It Up. I definitely recommend checking out this album!
