Leeland:Opposite Way
|
Following in the Footsteps of popular bands such as Coldplay, Keane, and The Fray, Leeland has released, Opposite Way, the follow-up to their extremely popular debut, Sounds of Melodies. Their mix of piano-infused rock with an attitude of fervent worship has made them a hit in the Christian music scene. On this release, they continue the work that they have started. As Jack Mooring puts it “Our band is trying to raise up a new generation of young worshippers who aren’t afraid to live different than the world-who aren’t afraid to live the opposite way.” From the first song to the last, they have succeeded in releasing an album that truly does that. “Opposite Way”, the title track of the album, challenges us to break out from the normal, complacent life that we are used to. It talks about how we feel “locked in a cage, but we need to find a way of escape”. The overall message is that its ok to not be part of the crowd, to be different. That is truly what the heart of this entire album is. Continuing in the theme of being different and not being afraid of it is the track “Let It Out Now”. It talks about how society tries to tell us what is popular, right, fun, and acceptable. We all have our own “sound”, as the song states, and there is nothing wrong with living it loud! Two tracks that will be accepted quickly into the worship community are “Enter this Temple” and ”May Our Praise”. They take a missions-minded approach on the track “Wake Up”, as it calls us to “Live like God, Pour out Love”. Our Salvation and the subsequent response to it is the topic of “Falling For You” and “Dont Go Away”. Overall, Leeland has put together a stellar sophomore release, with each song building upon another. This album is a must for everyone! You will not be disappointed.
