When Chattanooga, Tennessee’s Nevertheless broke onto the scene in the Fall of 2006, listeners were greeted with powerful lyrics and energetic music. Every track on Live Like We’re Alive, from the guitar heavy The Real to the beautiful ballad O’Child, was strong and applicable. Now, this quintet of southern boys has released their much anticipated follow up, In The Making… . And in similar fashion to their previous release, Making covers a wide variety of subjects including apathy(Sleeping In) and shining before your friends(Cross My Heart).

As noted before, the first track on the album Sleeping In deals with an apathetic lifestyle and trying to cover it:

I’ve been sleeping in for days

‘Cause when I am awake

I will have to face my life

and how:
need You here with me to face the world outside

‘Cause I’m tired of sleeping in

Following up is one of my personal favorite tracks on on the album, It’s True. Written from the perspective that life and people often make it hard to keep the faith, but even through it all God is always there, and even though the world makes it hard to see the light, we have to keep the faith. Cross My Heart follows, with its driving guitars and racing tempo, it is the most upbeat of the first three tracks, and probably the most similar to the sound that Neverthless created on Live Like We’re Alive

Topics, is a heartbreaking, but true depiction of how many people, mostly young people, deal with life today. They run to relationship, drugs, and just hide in them. Those who know about it, pretend they don’t and they don’t do anything to help the situation. The message, couple with Josh Pearson’s powerful voice and a single piano, make this song an emotional, but necessary addition to this album. With each listen, my heart grows more and more burdened for those who are in similar situations.

Overall, In The Making is a wonderful addition to the Nevertheless discography and should be added to your collection immediately.  Ultimately, these guys aren’t here for the accolades or awards, but I would be shocked if this album wasn’t nominated for several GMA’s. To sum it all up… go and get this album today.
