| Getting their start 10 years ago as The Aslan Band, Word Records Remedy Drive are certainly no strangers to those who have followed them since the beginning. They have successfully crafted their pop-rock sound and lead singer David Zach has even drawn comparisons to Jakob Dylan of the 90′s rock group, The Wallflowers.[1] The four Zach brothers have put forth a message that the world needs right now, the light in the darkness. This eleven track offering maintains its encouraging and powerful message from start to finish.
Daylight, the title track of the album, and the theme that the entire album album is built around, offers the message that Daylight is coming to break the dawn, no matter how far down you are, and how far away you feel. Lead singer David Zach said about the song: “In Lord of the Rings, Gandalf said, ‘At dawn, look to the East’, and that’s the message we’re offering here: even in the most desperate times, each new day provides a glimmer of hope.”[2]. Personally, this song has spoken to me the most in the time that I have been listening to the album. Hope also carries a similar message in that she(Hope) will never give up on us. Inspiration is the key theme of this album, and Hope certainly carries this theme on. The piano driven What Happens(At The End) carries with it a wonderfully depth of production value, as well as a message of being true to who you really are. “So often, we try to mask our loneliness with smiles and laughter, but even in the comfort of company, it’s still easy to feel like a stranger. This song speaks to the realization that our belonging is found in God and no one else.” is the message of Belong To You. Heartbeat serves as a shock to the system, pumping energy though your veins to revitalize what could be a dwindling heartbeat. Sunshine Above The Weather closes out Remedy Drive’s rookie effort with an attitude of worship and earnestness, something that is lacking in many “christian” releases these days. Daylight Is Coming may not be revolutionary in its sound or themes, but the way that Remedy Drive portrays the them is. Their honesty and musicality speak volumes about them. I look forward to hearing much more from them in the future. 4/5 P.S.- Be sure to check out What Happens… which happens to be my favorite Track on the album
