In a slight(notice the word slight) departure from our normal reviews, we bring you…. The Rubyz! This Pop/Rock trio plows courageously into the genre of music currently inhabited by groups and artists such as The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, PureNRG, Jump5, Hilary Duff and even High School Musical. Their message is clear. One, Christ is our strength. Two, don’t grow up too fast. Don’t try to be something that you aren’t. Thirteen, the first video from the album, portrays this message so well. “Outrageous” is quite possibly my favorite track on the album. It’s fast, loud, and fun! And it follows the same message of the rest of the album. There are two covers on the album. The Go-go’s “We’ve got the beat” and Rhianna’s “Umbrella, the later of which is an excellent remake of the original. Its slowed down a tad, but to near perfection. Other notable tracks on the album include “Baila Chiquita” and “In My Life”.

Even though this group, consisting of Marissa(13), Alexis(14), and Cammie(17), is primarily targeted at the “tween” audience, even my wife and I found ourselves tapping our toes and bobbing our heads to these songs(We even sang along, once we knew the words). The may not break new musical ground, but they do fill a need in the Christian music arena. I look for this group to grow by leaps and bounds this year.
